Off-Season is a selection from a large project I have been working on in Sicily. I decided to see the island without its usual influx of tourists and families who live there in second homes or beach houses. While much of my landscapes work takes place over a period of seasons, this “season” was different. It was not natural, but a human made one. It was filled with debris and discarded waste, there was an emptiness that is hard to explain. Stores are mostly closed outside of the two major cities, finding somewhere to eat was difficult. There is a sameness in the food. Choices, of all kinds, are limited. The place I saw the most people we cemetaries, visiting dead relatives and friends, spending time remembering what had been.
