The Path Above the Lake

March 19, 2025 Jim Roche

There are two paths, one by the edge of the lake and one up the hill above the lake. Too often, this pathway has bears with cubs. They are unwilling to move, and you often have to walk backwards, away, to avoid a clash. This time of year the undergrowth is preparing for spring.

Yakushima Island 2024

November 29, 2024 Jim Roche

I’ve returned to Yakushima Island to complete a project on the visual chaos found in the deep rainforest. Several pathways were blocked, and many trails had washed out in severe weather over the past few months. This led us to new areas of the forest, and more encounters with very unconcerned deer and monkeys.
